"The World I Know" is a song by the American alternative rock band Collective Soul from their 1995 Eponymous album. Written by lead singer and guitarist Ed Roland and guitarist Ross Childress, it peaked at #19 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart when released as a single, and spent four weeks at the #1 spot on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.
David Cook, the eventual winner of the seventh season of American Idol, sang "The World I Know" as his final song before winning the competition by 12 million votes. Following his performance, the song peaked at #67 on the Billboard Hot Digital Songs chart. His version later peaked at #28 on the Billboard Hot 100.
